| When I was three years old, I contracted
polio and the doctor told my mother that I would never walk
again. Two years later, I walked out of the hospital and went
on to live a normal and very active life. |
|
| As I reached my 50s, I started to experience some symptoms
of post-polio syndrome (PPS), like loss of function, fatigue,
muscle weakness and muscle and joint pain. As my symptoms
became more prevalent, I became much less active as it was a
tremendous struggle to get around. |
| A few years ago, I attended a FIRST
Robotics Meet with my son and saw the iBOT® Mobility System
inventor Dean Kamen speak. Since then, my life has changed in
unimaginable ways. |
| |
Because of the iBOT® Mobility System, I didn't have to stop
working. I didn't have to give up going for walks with my
family. I've been extremely active because the iBOT® Mobility
System has increased my mobility to the extent that once again
I can participate in the community. |

With the iBOT® Mobility System, I
participate more than ever before. Because of the iBOT®
Mobility System, I was able to continue working as a
Supervisor in Social Services. In the past two years, I also
ran for State Representative and Selectmen positions in my
home state. During those campaigns, I was able to look people
in the eye during the race, while going door-to-door for their
vote. While it's unfortunate that I was not elected, I know
that I would have never been able to keep up the strenuous
pace of campaigning if it wasn't for the iBOT® Mobility
System. Since then I was appointed to the Finance Committee
and appointed to a Commercial Reuse Committee.
I attribute most of my increased involvement to the iBOT®
Mobility System. At the end of my workday, I still have the
stamina to participate. Without the iBOT® Mobility System I
would be unable to attend any of these meetings. |
