Instead of bobbing and weaving, trying to catch a glance under someone’s armpit, now I just elevate in the Four-wheel Function and yodel to my heart’s content. I must admit that on occasion, while at a party or reception, I have been known to raise the seat, while in the Balance Function, to the highest range so that I look down on mere mortals who are just six feet tall. That doesn't make me a bad person....just an opportunist.
Another notable thing is the comfort and reliability of the iBOT® 4000. To me it feels like the iBOT® has more adjustments for comfort than a Swiss army knife has uses – including arm height, tilt angle, length, control pad position, seat back tilt all without tools and easily adjusted. I also love the automotive seat and its lumbar support and the "T" grip handle on the arm opposite the control arm.
Of course no discussion could be complete absent attention to the unique features of the iBOT®. I alluded to the Balance Function and its broad applications, which keep expanding with my changing living environment. The second feature that I like is the stair climbing function.
I live in Florida: Land of Hurricanes. "Jeanne meet Frances. Frances this is Jeanne. Have you ladies met power lines?" There were two occasions in 2005 where we were without power for three days and four days respectively. In the past, a trip to the 3rd floor of my garage required a call to the fire department. Now, all I have to do is power up my iBOT®. How cool is that? *
There remains one aspect of the iBOT® that you won’t find on the Website or in a sales brochure – the positive aura associated with the iBOT® and it’s operator. After 38 years in a wheelchair, I've experienced a big old slice of life. I'm not easily deterred and sure as heck not intimidated by circumstances or by people given to indifference. I am keenly aware of social mores concerning the disabled in this country and the vacillating acceptance, inclusion and prejudice. Never before have I seen, experienced or heard of any device that has such a positive aura around it and its operator as the iBOT®. Everyone approaches me with a smile or wide-eyed wonder with the same question: "How does that thing work?" My answer is always the same, “Pretty darn well!” Then I get to share a little of the technology and the quality of life enhancements the iBOT® provides to me.
